Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese such as gouda or cheddar
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped cooked halal turkey strips
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley optional
  • Oil or nonstick spray for greasing the waffle iron

Method

  1. Preheat the waffle iron to medium high heat.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl vigorously whisk the eggs until slightly foamy.
  4. Gradually whisk the milk into the eggs until smooth, then whisk in the olive oil until fully combined.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and whisk just until a smooth batter forms with no visible lumps.
  6. Stir in the shredded cheese, chopped halal turkey strips, and parsley, mixing until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Lightly grease the preheated waffle iron with oil or nonstick spray.
  8. Pour enough batter onto the waffle plates to cover the grid in a thin, even layer without overflowing.
  9. Close the waffle iron and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until the waffles are deep golden brown and crisp at the edges.
  10. Carefully remove the waffles and repeat with the remaining batter, greasing the waffle iron as needed.
  11. Serve the waffles hot with garlic sauce, yogurt sauce, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

- Use room temperature eggs so they combine better with the milk and oil and help create a lighter texture.
- Chop the halal turkey strips finely so it spreads evenly in the batter and every bite has some meat.
